The Davidson nonprofit organization Angels in Need is hosting Romanian orphanage survivor Izidor Ruckel as well as Simona Stewart, the founder and director of Romanian-based House of Angels, a home for abandoned children.

Ruckel and Stewart will share their stories during the “Think Occasionally” event Sunday in Davidson.

Ruckel was abandoned by his family, affected by polio and suffered in Romania’s orphanages for his first 11 years of life.

After the Communist regime ended in 1989, an estimated 100,000 children were left in state-run Romanian institutions.

About a year later, an ABC news story on the show “20/20” introduced Ruckel to the world. Shortly after the piece aired, he was adopted by an American family.
